The 2100 class was built by Commonwealth Engineering (ComEng) at Rocklea, QLD.
The first unit was in service in 1970. There are 102 units in the class, numbered 2100-2123, 2130-2140, 2141-2148, 2150-2163 and 2170-2214.
They have 16 cylinder EMD 16-645E and 12 cylinder EMD 12-645 engines.
They weigh 98 or 110 tonnes and have 2000 HP available for traction.
Some were rebuilt into the 2250 class.
