The 1502 class was built by Commonwealth Engineering (ComEng) at Rocklea, QLD.
The first unit was in service in 1967. There are 29 units in the class, numbered 1502-1530.
They have a 12 cylinder EMD 12-645E engine.
They weigh 92 tonnes and have 1500 HP available for traction.
Some were rebuilt into the standard gauge 423 class.
